Rated Exceptional
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE)* gave the following schools a rating of Exceptional for the 2005-2006 school year (report cards for the past five years are available on the ODE web site).
The Overall ratings of Exceptional, Strong, Satisfactory, Low and Unacceptable are based on four criteria:
1-Academic Achievement/Student Performance
2-Attendance/Dropout & Student Behavior
3-Improvement
4-School Characteristics
Several schools, such as Charter Schools, were given a grade of Not Rated and, therefore, may be unfairly excluded. Additionally, the "district rating is required by the No Child Left Behind Act. The report card is not meant to tell you everything about your district, but it offers a starting point for discussions about where improvement might be needed and for celebrating successes in education for Oregon's children."

The following ratings are from greatschools.net. According to the web site, "GreatSchools analyzed the 2006 Oregon Statewide Assessment reading, writing, math and science results and compared them to the test results for all Oregon schools with the same grade levels. A rating of "10" means that the group's test scores are in the top 10% compared to scores for the same group across all schools in the state. In other words, that group's test score performance is as good as, or better than, 90% of the scores for that group in the state... Overall ratings are calculated by averaging the ratings for each grade and subject. A Test Score Rating is not given if fewer than 50 schools have data for a particular group... Keep in mind that when comparing schools through Test Score Ratings, it's important to factor in other information, including the quality of each school's teachers, the school culture, special programs, etc."
