About

Strolling along the Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade on a summer evening yields a sparkling view of Downtown set against the backdrop of a pink and purple sky. Buckman’s quiet streets match this picture of serenity as you venture east from the Willamette, the neighborhood’s western border. Within minutes you will find yourself in the heart of all that Southeast Portland has to offer: funky coffee shops and bars like Three Friends (201 SE 12th Ave.) and Basement Pub (1028 SE 12th Ave.) and superb green spaces like Colonel Summers Park, which is alive with Ti Chi practitioners and dreadlocked drummers when the weather is warm. Buckman is a great place to raise a family, while also maintaining edginess and excitement that will appeal to singles.

Buckman (PDF map) is bounded to the north by E. Burnside Street; to the east by SE 28th Avenue; to the south by SE Hawthorne Boulevard; and to the west by the Willamette River.
