NORTH | ST. JOHNS

About

With its charming dowtown and close-knit village atmosphere feel, St. Johns (PDF map) seems like its own city. The neighborhood boasts wonderful views of Forest Park, across the Willamette and Smith and Bybee Lakes the country’s largest wetlands found within city limits. John Street is quickly adding charming shops and restaurants to its array of family-owned taverns and bakeries. One could easily stay within the neighborhood’s boundaries and have all of ones needs met, as St. Johns has not only commercial amenities, but has more and larger parks than almost any other neighborhood.

For first time home buyers the most attractive thing about St. Johns is housing prices, which remain relatively low. The community’s proximity to Northwest and the Pearl, via the lovely St. Johns Bridge and US 30, make it unique among Portland neighborhoods. If you’re looking for a pleasant day trip to the country, Sauvie Island, with its walking trails, wildlife refuge and beaches, is close by, while the attractions of close-in North Portland neighborhoods such as Boise are also a short drive or bike ride away. Those seeking a bargain with fantastic potential for appreciation, not to mention a great place to live, will definitely want to consider St. Johns.

Library

For the second year in a row, Multnomah County Library is ranked number two in Hennen's American Public Library Ratings (HAPLR), which rates U.S. public libraries serving populations over 500,000.
