About
Hayden Island (PDF map) is unique among Portland neighborhoods, for obvious reasons. The only inhabited island within the city limits, Hayden Island is a study in opposites. At the island’s eastern end the massive Jantzen Beach Center shopping complex offers all of the big box stores that come standard in any American city, while a few minutes drive (then walk, as the road ends) west finds you in relative wilderness. Housing options run the gamut from a large trailer park to nice river view condos and houseboats, with many deals to be had. If you’re a boater, you’ll love Hayden Island’s unobstructed access to the mighty Columbia. The island also boasts a beautiful riverfront walk and quick access to Interstate 5, which can carry you to either downtown Portland or Vancouver, Washington in a matter of minutes. If you’re a nature-lover, Hayden Island, with fully half of its territory undeveloped, offers limitless fun.

For the second year in a row, Multnomah County Library is ranked number two in Hennen's American Public Library Ratings (HAPLR), which rates U.S. public libraries serving populations over 500,000.
Hayden Island is served by the North Portland branch (512 N Killingsworth St.) of the Multnomah County Library.

Hayden Island Neighborhood Network meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM at South Shore Recreation Center (1221 N. West Shore Dr.)
